Responsible for performing ultrasounds in a professional and diagnostic manner. Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify and record appropriate anatomical, pathological, and diagnostic images. The sonographer must thoroughly understand the operation of the ultrasound machine and utilize new technologies. Performs a variety of ultrasound examinations. Establishes and maintains ethical working relationships and good rapport with patients and all organizational staff. Maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times and is self-motivated to increase the level of understanding and knowledge of the sonography field. Displays empathy, compassion, and integrity. Possesses an understanding of cross-sectional anatomy. Provides patients guidelines for sonographic examination. Conducts self professionally at all times, even during moments of high stress. Assists when necessary with the maintenance of accreditation requirements and processes. Understands age-related protocols for various testing. Coordinate work with physicians or other healthcare team members, including providing assistance during invasive procedures when applicable. Supervises and train students and medical sonographers as needed. Reports and calls in-service requests on equipment when needed. Rural Sanford sites may expand job responsibilities based on the needs of the facility, to include, but not limited to: on-call rotation nights, weekends, and holidays. Perform diagnostic radiology procedures. Perform basic diagnostic radiology tasks and aware of general radiology protocols. May perform mobile imaging, EKG, cardiac monitor placement, and DEXA procedures.
Adjusts to new or changing assignments, processes, and people. Applies ultrasound-based techniques to examine and diagnose medical conditions. Ensures that all equipment or related supplies are in proper working order prior to use. Maintain stock and supplies, preparing supplies for special examinations and ordering supplies when necessary. Perform clerical duties, such as scheduling exams or special procedures, keeping records, or archiving computerized images. Understands and clarifies the different modes of ultrasound-based examination techniques.
Position is a .5 flex. The flex position includes full time benefits. The hours may fluctuate. Most of the shifts will be at clinics but a variety of 8, 10 or 12 hour shifts. Rotations include clinics throughout Fargo as well as a mobile route. Rotating call schedule.
Registration in at least one of the following areas of sonography is required: Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS), Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT), American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), or registry eligible. Registry preferred within six months after hiring. If working in North Dakota and performing medical imaging or radiation therapy procedures, licensure through the North Dakota Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (MIRT) Board of Examiners is required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within six weeks of employment and re-certification as necessary is required. For employees who provide outreach mobile services, maintenance of a valid drivers license and good driving record is required. This may include passenger on flights and occasional overnight stays at assigned sites. Employees are held to the Sanford category driver's license policy and medical guidelines when applicable for job duties. Graduate of an accredited school of Diagnostic Imaging, Allied Health Certificate/Diploma or a minimum of one year equivalent work experience is preferred.
